This Privacy Policy explains how XMCompanion ("the app", "we", "us") handles information. XMCompanion is an independent Windows application that lets you control Sony WH‑1000XM‑series headphones from your PC. It is designed to run entirely on your own computer.

The short version: XMCompanion collects no personal data, requires no account, contains no ads or trackers, and sends nothing about you to us or to anyone else. There is no server behind the app — it talks only to your headphones, over Bluetooth, on your own machine.

1. Information we do not collect

We do not collect, transmit, sell, rent, or share any of the following:

• Names, email addresses, or contact details
• Accounts, sign‑ins, or user identifiers (there is no account system)
• Location data
• Usage analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising identifiers
• Payment or financial information
• The contents of your audio, calls, or microphone

2. Information stored locally on your device

To function, the app reads and writes a small amount of data that stays on your PC and is never uploaded:

• Headphone status and settings — battery level, the active Bluetooth codec, noise‑control mode, equalizer values, and similar state, exchanged directly with your headphones over Bluetooth.
• Your preferences — equalizer presets you create and app options, saved in a settings file under your Windows user profile (%APPDATA%\XMCompanion).
• Diagnostic logs — a local text log (%LOCALAPPDATA%\XMCompanion) recording connection events to help troubleshoot problems. It is written only to your disk and is never sent anywhere automatically. You can view or delete it at any time from the app's About page.

Because this data lives only on your computer, you remain in full control of it. Deleting it, or uninstalling the app, removes it. It is subject to your own Windows account and device security.

3. Bluetooth

XMCompanion uses Windows' Bluetooth capability to discover and communicate with headphones you have already paired with your PC. This communication is local and direct between your computer and your headphones. No Bluetooth data is transmitted over the internet.

4. Network connections

The app itself makes no network calls to us — we operate no analytics, accounts, or backend services. Opening a link from within the app (for example, the support email or the website) uses your default browser or mail client and is governed by those apps' own policies.

5. Purchases

XMCompanion is sold through the Microsoft Store. All payments, billing, and related account information are handled entirely by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. We never receive or see your payment details.

6. This website

xmcompanion.com is a static marketing site with no analytics or tracking scripts. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which may receive standard technical request information (such as your IP address and browser type) as described in Google's Privacy Policy. If you choose to email support, we use your message and email address solely to respond to you and do not share them with third parties.

7. Children's privacy

XMCompanion is a general‑audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).

8. Your rights and choices

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export or delete on our end. You control all app data directly on your device: remove your settings and logs from the folders above, or uninstall the app, at any time. 9. Data security

All app data remains on your own computer and is protected by your Windows user account and device security. We do not store your data on any server, so there is no remote database that could be breached.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will post the updated version at this address and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
